Everyone in Sweden is confused after Donald Trumps speech in Florida on Saturday, where he used Sweden as an example.
“We’ve got to keep our country safe. You look at what’s happening in Germany, you look at what’s happening last night in Sweden. “
“Sweden, who would belive this? Sweden. They took in large numbers. They’re having problems like they never thought possible. You look at what’s happening in Brussels. You look at what’s happening all over the world. Take a look at Nice. Take a look at Paris.
The President did not go into specifics about what happened in Sweden. And the Swedes can’t find the answer. Even though he did not mention a terror attack, the Scandinavian country was mention among a several citys that has been attacked in Europe the past year.
“Sweden? Terror attack) What has he been smoking?” asked Sweden’s former prime minister, Carl Blidt, on Twitter.
There are now several theories all over the web about what Trump meant in his speech. Some believes that he was referring to a program on Fox News on Friday. In an interview the filmmaker, Ami Horowitz, accused the Swedish government to hide time statistic in the country. Another theory is that he confused the country Sweden with the Pakistani town Sehwan, were more than 85 people were killed in a suicide bombing Thursday.
Whatever the theories, the Swedish embassy in Washington has contacted the US State department and asked for clarification on what the President meant.
– Our embassy in Washington has contacted the US State Department to clarify this. We wonder of course, says press officer, Catarina Axelsson in the Swedish Foreign Ministry.
– We will see if we get an answer, she adds.
And luckily Twitter-users does not disappoint in their reactions:
